Principal’s Corner: A Message from Principal Kamau
Happy Memorial Day Weekend Warner Families:
I hope your family is well and that you are taking advantage of the three-day weekend to rest and to prepare to finish strong in the remaining two weeks of the school year.
My recommendation to everyone is to be completely plugged in to all the events planned for the remainder of the school year. There are two (morning) assemblies scheduled for June 2nd and June 6th to appreciate and recognize teachers, students and parent volunteers. Warner Avenue is the best school because of our hard-working teachers, students and parent volunteers. I would love to have as many parents as possible attend the assemblies on June 2nd and June 6th. Are you in?
Other dates to keep in mind are June 9th and June 10th. Both days are minimum days. That means that school begins at8:00am and ends at 12:30pm. It is painful see the sad faces of students sitting in the office for a long time because parents forgot to pick-up them up at 12:30pm. Put a smile on your child’s face by calendaring the minimum day times on your phone.
Our final pillar of character for the year is citizenship. Students will learn about citizenship characteristics and they will be recognized for demonstrating these characteristics by having their name placed on the “Kids with Character” wall. Good citizens are active in the community, they respect authority and obey laws, they help make things better and they protect the environment.
Congratulations to our fifth-grade teachers and students!
The 2016 culminating class is caring, mature, and scholarly. The students’ academic career at Warner Avenue is quickly coming to an end and we are excited to celebrate them on June 9, 2016. Parents, please pay close attention to the Culmination Guideline letter as we collaborate in making this day a memorable experience for everyone.
I am thankful for Warner teachers. They make me proud to be an educator; to principal a team of educators who believe that excellence is the bar, no excuses. When you work with a team that has at the core a can-do attitude, each day is a joy. I am joy-filled!
Be Well: Be Kind
Agnes Kamau, Principal

OPEN COMMITTEE POSITIONS (detailed job description available upon request)
WAVE Finance Committee:
We need your expertise, passion and time to continue WAVE’s successful oversight of deposits, expenses, accounting, tax preparation, fiduciary responsibility and process review. We’ve divided the roles so that it’s not too time consuming for any one person. Our intent is to share information and process with you so that you can get involved in a comfortable way. We have many dedicated parents on the FinanceCommittee and the WAVE Board who have children graduating this and next year so it’s urgent that we pass the torch onto those who can carry on the success and strength of Warner Ave. Elementary School and its parent support group, WAVE.
Community Grants: Research and write grant applications for
Warner
Graphic Design Chair: Design logos and T-shirts for school events, oversee School Roster layout, Annual Fund brochure and other WAVE publications. Familiarity with Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) a plus but not a necessity.
NOVA is over for the school year! Galaxy is still available until the end of the school year.
This is EXTRAVAGANZA WEEK, Children performing in Grease are expected to stay until 6PM both Tuesday and Wednesday with a PERFORMANCE on Thursday 6/2/16 at 4:00PM.
